A few weeks ago I went to Reggio Emilia to watch two very different performances: the premiere of
La massa (the crowds) by the
Abbondanza-Bertoni Dance Company and
Impressing the Czar by
William Forsythe danced by the
Royal Ballet of Flanders. The former was an intense piece of dance theatre, while the latter an impressive burst of energy, a kind of classic within neoclassic dance history as its premiere was in 1988.
