friday

"And in that same instant I understood why Friday had danced all day in your house: it was to remove himself, or his spirit, from Newington and England, and from me too".

These are the words of Susan Barton, the central character in J. M. Coetzee's Foe (1986), a rewriting of Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe (1719), when she talks of Friday's dancing. It is a beautiful work. Highly recommended!
